There was no honest playbook for building in Africa. So we wrote one.

Archivart

Tunisia · Art

Archivart is a digital platform for contemporary African art: an archive, an editorial voice, and a way for collectors to buy directly from the artists who made the work. It is the one company in this record that is ours, and where the method was learned first, from the inside.

The Challenge

Artists across the continent were producing serious work without the tools to live from it. The work went unrecorded and mostly unseen outside its own city, and the artists had never been taught the business of selling what they made.

Our Approach

We built both sides of the market. The gallery gave the work a record and a route to buyers. SprintArt, the accelerator Archivart created, gave artists the business skills to use it, then took the model from Tunisia to Rwanda, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire.
