There was no honest playbook for building in Africa. So we wrote one.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy was last updated on September 17, 2026 and applies to everyone whose personal data we process through our website.

1. Introduction

Our website, https://withpace.org (hereinafter: “the website”), is operated by Pan African Center for Entrepreneurship (hereinafter: “we” or “us”). In this Privacy Policy we explain what personal data we collect through the website, what we do with it, and what rights you have.

In our processing we comply with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This means that we:

  • state clearly why we process your personal data, in this Privacy Policy;
  • collect only the personal data we need for those purposes;
  • ask for your explicit consent where the law requires it;
  • take appropriate security measures to protect your personal data, and require the same of parties that process data on our behalf;
  • respect your right to access, correct or delete your personal data.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.

2. Purpose, data and retention period

We collect or receive personal data for the purposes below.

2.1 Enquiries

When you contact us by email, we use the following data:

  • your name and email address;
  • anything you choose to tell us in your message, such as details about you, your company or your event.

Basis: legitimate interest, and steps taken at your request before entering into a contract.
Retention period: 24 months after our last contact. If we work together, we keep the data for the duration of the engagement and 7 years afterwards for accounting purposes.

2.2 Purchases

When you buy Markets Don’t Lie, our payment provider Stripe collects your payment details. We do not see or store your full card number. We receive the following data:

  • email address;
  • name, if you provide it;
  • the role you select at checkout;
  • order details: what you bought, when, and the amount paid.

Basis: performance of a contract. We use the role you select on the basis of legitimate interest, to understand who reads the book.
Retention period: 7 years, as required by Dutch tax law.

2.3 Book delivery and updates

After your purchase, SendOwl sends you a download link by email. We also use your email address to send you the chapters we release later and the finished edition. Each copy you download is marked with your name and email address, to discourage unauthorised sharing.

Basis: performance of a contract. We mark each copy on the basis of legitimate interest, to protect our work.
Retention period: for as long as we publish the book, and after that for the period in 2.2.

2.4 Readers’ community

Your purchase includes an invite to our readers’ community on WhatsApp. Joining is your choice. If you join, the community admins can see your phone number and profile name, and depending on the group, other members may too.

Basis: performance of a contract.
Retention period: until you leave the community. You can leave at any time. WhatsApp processes your data under its own privacy policy.

2.5 Website statistics

If you accept statistics cookies, we collect data about how you use the website. Google Analytics records the pages you visit, how you arrived, and your browser and device type. Hotjar records how you move through pages, such as clicks and scrolling, to help us find what isn’t working.

Basis: consent.
Retention period: 14 months for Google Analytics; 12 months for Hotjar.

2.6 Marketing

If you accept marketing cookies, we use two services. LinkedIn collects data about your visit so that we can measure the reach of our campaigns, and may use this data under its own privacy policy. Leadfeeder uses your IP address to identify the company or organisation you are visiting from, so that we know which organisations are interested in our work.

Basis: consent.
Retention period: as set out in our Cookie Policy.

2.7 Security and operation of the website

When you visit the website, our hosting provider records basic technical data, such as your IP address and browser type, to keep the website secure and working. We also keep a record of the cookie choices you make.

Basis: legitimate interest for security; legal obligation for the record of your cookie choices.
Retention period: up to 30 days for technical logs; 12 months for cookie consent records.

2.8 Accounting obligations

We keep financial records of purchases and engagements.

Basis: legal obligation.
Retention period: 7 years, as required by Dutch tax law.
