There was no honest playbook for building in Africa. So we wrote one.

Goethe Institut

Tunisia · Libya · Founder programme

The Goethe Institut in Tunisia and Libya commissioned a programme for twelve Libyan entrepreneurs, in a country outside the mandate of nearly every fund on the continent. We worked with them on strategy, business models, and pitching to two audiences that rarely ask the same questions: investors, and cultural institutions.

The Challenge

The founders were not less capable than founders anywhere else. They were less seen. No fund had a mandate for Libya, so no investor had ever tested their companies, and the companies had never been built to be tested.

Our Approach

We built each company to be assessed on its own terms, by whoever was finally willing to look, and prepared the founders to make the case to a cultural institution as well as to an investor.

A founder outside every mandate still has a market. The mandate is the thing that is missing.
